I'm actually getting this posted a whole hour before the 'deadline' (what time zone??) My daughter Leslie, and grandsons Cole and Colin were in town from California and as such, the photo project was almost put on the back burner... but then decided to use Colin for the subject matter of many of Joanne's mix - i.e, ground level, bubbles, & black n white.
for #1 however, this is a shot from our recent sailing trip up in the Pacific Northwest. It's the dock's at Buchart Gardens. For those of you that might have been here, bet you didn't know you could go by boat!
and for #2 - a night shot of a street in Frankfort Germany on a recent stop with 'AA'....
#4..... 'ground level' (or close enuf!).....
#5....."Tiny Bubble"
#6.... ok, bubbles.....
#7..... "come to me...."
#8.... as for 'newspapers..., I was going to try to take shots of Colin on the crapper reading a newspaper when he told me he couldn't hold the paper without falling in......
had to change plans to a couple pics of some iconic newspapers I've saved over the years.... I actually had the opportunity to fly as part of the search and rescue mission when Mt. St. Helens blew her top on May 18th, 1980. I was stationed at McChord AFB flying C130's.... one of those memories that one would never forget...
#9.... and then, where were you when.....
#10..... oh, yes, the night time shot....
again, of Buchart Gardens...

It looks like you had some fun with this and I think Colin enjoyed it too. He steals the show in every photo he's in - such a cutie! The photos of Buchart Gardens are spectacular (I was there about 15 yrs ago), the lighting they do for night viewing is incredible. I laughed out loud regarding your vision for Colin and the newspaper...but the two newspapers you printed are history in the making and thanks for sharing. You outdid yourself on your first pic - stunning!
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! How to pick a favorite.....I love all the bubble pics though so I'm picking them as my favorites....I wasn't aware you took part in the St Helens missions. We flew our HC130's there and supported the rescue missions along with the 304th out of Portland. they had UH1's at the time.....I still have my ash from there. I think I even gave your dad a bottle a long time ago....
ReplyDeleteGreat job as always on all the pictures Rex...loved this night shots too, I'm picking those now as another co-favorite....
I just LOVE the pix of Colin and the bubbles!!! My favorite is #6! His glee and joy is evident in his little face. The rest of your pics are just awesome! The newspaper pix are great historic 'recalls' that we should never forget.
ReplyDeleteWe are lucky for your participation in our little group as you always seem to add a fresh perspective! NICE!
Hey Rex,
ReplyDeleteI just realized I looked last week and didn't comment.
#1 is like a post card. The lanterns, sky, water--good composition
#2 I like the leading lines of the street in perspective
#3 I love this one- sharp eyes, hair light, highlights on cheeks. You must have used a soft flash or reflector to get the face lit so well. Then you have light from the right lighting the hair and from the back from the window. I think the window itself should go. It's blasting the corner out. Very good portrait technique.
4567-That bubble kid is adorable. You caught him in so many cute expressions. Good job--also worked for the ground shot.
8-9 Good old papers. Small world. Our unit went to Portland ANGB to support the 304th rescue unit out there. I have a little ziploc bag of Volcanic ash that I got out of the nose wheel well of one of our C-130s when it got back to Selfridge.
10 The park came out great.
I see Mark said the same thing about St Helen. I figured he would mention it.
ReplyDeleteI don't read any other critiques until I post mine.
